The SMART project record
SMART connected water-resource research, local technology trials and decision support in the Lower Jordan Valley.
THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE.
SMART stands for Sustainable Management of Available Water Resources with Innovative Technologies. The research programme brought together partners from Germany, Israel, Jordan and the Palestinian Territories to investigate integrated management in the Lower Jordan Rift Valley.

2006–2010 / PHASE I
Research established a shared basis for analysing water resources, technologies and management options. The project report was published in 2011.
2010–2014 / PHASE II
Work continued on technology, modelling and implementation questions. The final Phase II report was published in 2015.
2026 / THIS EDITION
The website reconnects original evidence with new explanations and transparent learning tools. A new website edition does not imply that historical funding, institutional roles or field operations continue unchanged.
People and institutions in their period
The original website identified coordination at Karlsruhe University / KIT, led by Heinz Hötzl, with Leif Wolf and Wasim Ali named in the project record. These are historical credits, not a current staff directory or a statement of present availability.
